Confession of accused arrested
Enamul Haque, arrested in a case filed against a woman in Pallabi, has given a confessional statement in court. He gave his statement in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court on Wednesday.
Police have requested to remand another accused, Hamidur Rahman, who was arrested in the same case, for seven days for questioning. The court has fixed March 23 for hearing on the remand application. Later, it ordered him to be sent to jail. Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman told Prothom Alo yesterday that the woman went there from Turag area of the capital around 11 pm yesterday after receiving information that an obscene video was being recorded in an under-construction building in the Matikata area. Then some young men grabbed her and took her to the third floor of a 12-storey building under construction in the Green City area of Barontek. Then 16 people surrounded her. They raped the woman from 1 am to 8:30 am yesterday. The woman is a journalist for a newspaper.
At one stage, the woman managed to escape from the accused. Later, she filed a case with Pallabi Police Station yesterday, mentioning the names of eight people.
Then, yesterday afternoon, the police conducted a raid in the Pallabi area and arrested the main accused in the case, Enamul Haque, and his accomplice, Hamidur Rahman.
The woman, who is in her forties, is currently undergoing treatment at the One-Stop Crisis Center of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. She has undergone forensic examination.
